Leaving Piazza G. Fabrizio opposite the Town Hall, the route passes through the old town, skirting the Old Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and goes out via the Campo Morino industrial area into the surrounding countryside, through fields where potatoes are grown, one of the most important crops in this region.
The easy, flat road continues for 11.3 km into San Lorenzo Nuovo, where participants can enjoy a breakfast provided by the local authority in conjunction with Pro Loco of San Lorenzo Nuovo.
After breakfast we leave the main square and continue on towards a wood that runs alongside the path leading into the crater of the volcano.
This is a pleasant walk along unpaved roads leading up to Bolsena, through stretches of olive groves, meadows and woods, with beautiful views of Lake Bolsena.
Once we pass through the old entry portal to the north of Bolsena we enter the historic town centre, where a meal will be provided in the main square courtesy of the local authority.
Olive groves and woods line the route out of Bolsena as we climb higher, with splendid views of the lake, following some ancient sections of the Via Cassia paved with basalt. Thrilling 360° views await us from the Torre del Pellegrino (Pilgrim's Tower) on arrival in Montefiascone. Watch out for traffic as you walk along Via Cassia in the Ponte della Regina area. On arrival at the Rocca dei Papi (Fortress of the Popes), there are final refreshments and the closing ceremony.
